MDEPARTMENT × IRELAND
E-commerce Development
E-COMMERCE
E-commerce development for businesses in Ireland comes down to one practical question: how does a customer get from product page to paid order with as little friction as possible? Irish shoppers are used to ordering from large UK and international retailers, and they compare delivery costs, returns and the mobile checkout from the very first visit. Behind the storefront, every order has to reach your stock, your accounts and your courier without anyone copying it across by hand. Since June 2025, the European Accessibility Act has also applied to online shops selling to consumers, with an exemption for micro-enterprises. MDEPARTMENT, a digital studio of KRUPKA Concept GmbH in Germany, builds online shops for companies in Ireland: fast, accessible and GDPR-compliant storefronts, a checkout with card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and clean integrations with payment providers, couriers and inventory systems – in one language or several.

E-commerce Development
- Customers check out on their phone in a few taps, without creating an account.
- Orders, stock levels and invoices reach your back office without anyone re-keying them.
- One shop serves Ireland, the UK and the wider EU in the right currency.
- Built to WCAG 2.1 AA, your shop is ready for the European Accessibility Act.
Checkout comes first
We plan backwards from the checkout: guest checkout, Eircode address lookup, card payments with 3-D Secure, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and delivery costs shown before the final step. Category and product pages are then shaped around how your customers actually search, filter and compare on a phone.
A connected back office
Orders, stock levels and prices sync with your ERP or accounting software – Sage, Xero or Microsoft Business Central, for example – and with your till system if you offer click and collect. Shipping labels and tracking numbers for An Post, DPD or other carriers are created automatically, so no order has to be typed in twice.
Tested before go-live
Before launch, we place test orders across devices and payment methods, check accessibility against WCAG 2.1 AA, measure Core Web Vitals and map every old URL to its new address with a 301 redirect. You own your data and the custom code we write, and an optional maintenance plan covers platform and extension updates as well as security patches.

Frequently asked questions — Ireland
What does e-commerce development cost, and what drives the price?
There is no flat rate for online shops: two that look alike can differ considerably behind the scenes. The main drivers are your catalogue's size and structure; the platform (an established system such as Shopify or Shopware, or a headless build); integrations with ERP, accounting, till systems and couriers; the number of languages and currencies; and the migration of products, customer accounts and old URLs. As a guide, our websites start at €3,000, custom software and web apps at €15,000. A compact shop on an established platform sits closer to a website project; B2B pricing logic or deep ERP integration moves it towards software. After a first conversation, you receive a fixed price in euro, with third-party costs such as platform subscriptions and payment fees shown separately.
What are the steps from the first call to the first order?
We start with discovery: your products and variants, how orders are fulfilled today, and which systems hold stock, prices and customer data. From there, we design the key templates – category page, product page, basket and checkout – on a test environment you can click through on your phone. Development and integrations follow in stages; product data and old URLs are then migrated, with 301 redirects so existing rankings and links carry over. Before launch, we place test orders with every payment method and delivery option. The timeline depends mainly on the integrations and your data quality, and we agree it in writing, with milestones, once discovery is complete. If your sales peak before Christmas, we launch well ahead of the peak, not in the middle of it.
What is it like to work with a studio in Germany – language, time zone and invoicing?
MDEPARTMENT has no office in Ireland; we work remotely and say so from the outset. The project language is English, or German if you prefer, and one named contact stays with your project throughout. Germany is one hour ahead of Irish time, so working days overlap almost completely. You follow progress on a test environment and a shared project board, alongside regular video calls. For a kick-off or workshop with your warehouse or customer-service team, we travel to Ireland on request, with costs agreed in advance. Invoices are issued in euro by KRUPKA Concept GmbH, the company behind MDEPARTMENT. For B2B clients with an Irish VAT number, we invoice without German VAT under the EU reverse-charge procedure, and you account for VAT in your Irish return.
Can one shop sell to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain and the rest of the EU?
Yes, provided the rules are built in from the start, not bolted on later. We set up delivery zones, rates and carrier services per region, and prices in euro and sterling if needed. Under the Windsor Framework, Northern Ireland largely follows EU rules for goods, while parcels to Great Britain need customs declarations, so the shop must pass data such as commodity codes and country of origin to your carrier. For sales to consumers in other EU countries, VAT is often handled through the One-Stop Shop scheme; your accountant decides the tax treatment, and we build it into the shop. Product data, legal pages and order emails can also be properly translated, so a German or French version works as a real shop, not a machine-translated copy.
Planning a new shop, moving off a platform you have outgrown, or connecting your existing shop to your stock and accounts? Tell us about your catalogue, your customers and the systems involved. We will come back to you with a clear scope, a fixed price in euro and a realistic timeline, planned around your next sales peak where relevant. The first conversation is free and without obligation.
Let's talk about your project, your vision and your brand.
