MDEPARTMENT × IRELAND
Websites & software in Limerick
Limerick
Semiconductor manufacturing in Raheen, medtech at the National Technology Park, financial services at City East Plaza and aircraft leasing out at Shannon: Limerick's economy is technical, international and closely tied to its university. For the engineering firms, service providers and suppliers working around these operations, a website has two jobs – convincing technical buyers and attracting skilled people. MDEPARTMENT combines web design in Limerick with custom software development. We build fast, accessible websites with clear service and careers pages, and software wherever off-the-shelf tools stop fitting: job-tracking systems for engineering contractors, customer portals, interfaces between existing applications or AI-supported tools for documents and enquiries. The studio is based in Germany; we work with you remotely and in English, and visit the Mid-West when an on-site workshop makes sense.

Limerick is the main urban centre of Ireland's Mid-West and has long attracted foreign direct investment, helped by nearby Shannon Airport and the Shannon Free Zone, established in 1959 as the world's first modern free-trade zone. Analog Devices runs its European manufacturing base in Raheen with more than 1,000 staff, and Raheen Business Park is also home to Regeneron, Stryker and ON Semiconductor. At the National Technology Park in Castletroy, beside the University of Limerick, Johnson & Johnson's Vistakon produces contact lenses and Cook Medical employs over 800 people, while Northern Trust has an office at City East Plaza. This mix of semiconductor, medtech, pharma and financial-services operations supports a layer of local engineering and service SMEs that need professional websites and custom business software.

Frequently asked questions — Limerick
How quickly can a new website for a Limerick business go live?
For a focused company website with a handful of service pages, a careers section and a contact form, plan on roughly four to eight weeks from kick-off to launch. The deciding factor is usually content: texts, references and images need to be ready and approved. Websites with several languages, product catalogues or integrations take correspondingly longer. We agree a timeline with milestones at the start and keep it visible throughout the project, so you always know what is due next – from your side and from ours.
Do we need to speak German to work with you?
No. Your project runs entirely in English – workshops, documentation, the content management system and support. German is available too, for instance if your company works closely with a German parent company or partners. Time zones are no obstacle either: Germany is one hour ahead of Ireland, so we share almost the whole working day. We are not based in Limerick, and we do not pretend to be. Meetings happen by video, and we travel to the Mid-West for workshops when being in the same room makes a real difference to the result.
How is the price for custom software development calculated?
Custom software starts from €15,000, a website from €3,000. Above those starting points, the price depends on the number of user roles and workflows, the systems we need to connect, any data migration and requirements such as audit trails or single sign-on. We clarify all of this in an initial conversation. You then receive a fixed price in euro instead of an open-ended hourly estimate, which makes budgeting predictable for engineering and service firms used to working with fixed quotations themselves. Larger systems can be split into phases, each priced separately.
Do you look after the software once it is running?
Yes. Software is never really finished: operating systems, browsers and libraries change, and new requirements appear as your business evolves. We offer ongoing support agreements that cover security updates, monitoring, backups and an agreed volume of development time for improvements. Response times for critical issues are defined in writing. If you later want to bring development in-house – perhaps with graduates from the University of Limerick – you receive the complete source code and technical documentation, and we support the handover to your team.
Not every project needs to start big. Some businesses begin with a website relaunch and add a client portal later; others start with one internal tool that saves the team hours each week. Tell us which problem you would like to solve first, and we will show you a sensible first step – with a fixed price agreed before any work begins.
