MDEPARTMENT × MALTA

Websites & software in Marsa

Marsa

Many people who look up a Marsa business online are based outside Malta. A shipping agent abroad wants to know what cargo the Deep Water Quay handles, a superyacht captain compares repair and crew services before entering the Grand Harbour, and an overseas distributor checks whether a manufacturer on the industrial estate can supply in volume. They read in English, Italian or another language, and expect clear specifications, current contacts and an easy route to a quote. That is the audience MDEPARTMENT, a digital studio based in Germany, has in mind. Fast, accessible, GDPR-compliant websites with clearly structured multilingual content are the core of our web design in Marsa. With custom software development, we add quotation portals, booking tools for marine services and order systems linking sales with production. Projects run remotely, in English or German.

Marsa lies at the innermost end of the Grand Harbour, and port activity still shapes its economy. Valletta Gateway Terminals, a joint venture of Tumas Group and Portek based in Marsa, handles RoRo, container and breakbulk cargo at the Deep Water Quay. On the former shipbuilding yard, Mediterranean Maritime Hub offers port, technical, crew-logistics and superyacht services. INDIS Malta's Marsa Industrial Estate is home to firms in automotive components, food and beverages, engineering, pharmaceuticals, plastics and printing, among them Burmarrad Group's vehicle facility and water-tank maker Idroplast. The town is also an administrative base: Enemalta and MaltaPost both have their head offices here. MCAST's main campus stands on Corradino Hill in neighbouring Paola. Recent investment includes the Marsa Sports Complex, developed through SportMalta and completed in 2026, and the regeneration of the Marsa Racetrack under a private concession.

Frequently asked questions — Marsa

Our customers are abroad and you are in Germany. Who do we deal with, and in which language?

You deal with one named contact at MDEPARTMENT from the first conversation to launch and beyond. We have no office in Malta; the work happens remotely, through video calls, a shared project board and a test environment where you review each stage. The project itself runs in English or German. Further languages, for example Italian or French for buyers and yacht owners, are planned into the site structure from the start, and we agree early on who provides the translations. As there is no time difference between Malta and Germany, calls fit into ordinary office hours. If you would like a workshop in person, for instance with your operations and sales teams in one room, we come to Marsa on request.

What determines the price of web design in Marsa or of a custom web application?

Every project receives a fixed price, agreed after a free initial call in which we clarify scope and goals. Websites start at €3,000; custom software and web applications start at €15,000. For firms in Marsa, the final figure usually depends on three things: how many languages the site needs; how much technical content has to be structured, such as service descriptions for vessels or product data sheets; and whether existing systems must be connected, for instance an ERP or a scheduling tool for repair slots. Larger undertakings can be split into phases, each with its own fixed price. Invoices are issued in euros by KRUPKA Concept GmbH; between VAT-registered businesses in the EU, the reverse-charge mechanism normally applies.

How many weeks should we allow before a multilingual site or quotation portal goes live?

From concept to launch, a focused company website usually takes four to eight weeks. Each additional language adds time for translation and review, and we build that into the schedule before work begins. For a portal handling cargo or repair enquiries with a clearly defined scope, eight to twelve weeks is typical. Larger systems that connect sales, production and dispatch are delivered in stages, so a first module is already in use while the next is being built. What slows a project down most often is not development but content and approvals: technical data, photos of the facilities and sign-off from people who spend their day on the quay or the shop floor.

Could a manufacturer on the industrial estate sell its products through an online shop?

Yes, and the same shop can serve trade buyers and private customers. For producers of plastics, food and beverages or automotive parts, a B2B area with customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities and one-click reordering often matters more than a classic storefront. Where possible, we connect the shop to your stock or ERP data so that availability is accurate. For sales to consumers in other EU countries, the shop can apply the VAT rate of each destination; your tax adviser confirms when this is required and whether to register under the One-Stop Shop scheme. Since June 2025, the European Accessibility Act has applied to many consumer-facing online shops, so we build to WCAG 2.1 AA. Payment providers, shipping rules and multilingual product data are planned from the first workshop.

Every hour a vessel waits at the quay costs money; so does every enquiry left unanswered in an inbox and every quote rebuilt by hand. Tell us where information gets held up between your customers abroad, your team and your systems. We start with a free initial call, then send you a fixed price in euros and a plan for the first release.

Let's talk about your project, your vision and your brand.
