Websites & software in Mosta

Mosta

Before a batch of circuit boards leaves a contract manufacturer, plenty of information has to change hands: the customer's revised parts list, component lead times, test reports and a delivery date that someone confirms by email. At Mosta Technopark, makers of electronics, precision sensors and medical products deal with this kind of exchange, and wherever it still runs through spreadsheets and inboxes, time is lost. MDEPARTMENT, a digital studio based in Germany, builds tools that bring order to this flow: customer portals for quotes and order status, interfaces to ERP systems and document areas with versioned datasheets. This custom software development goes hand in hand with our web design for Mosta businesses: clear B2B websites, careers pages that speak to technicians and engineers, and fast, accessible online shops for retailers in town. We work remotely, in English or German.

Mosta, in Malta's Northern Region, has grown from a village into one of the major commercial zones of central Malta. Its industrial anchor is Mosta Technopark on Triq il-Valletta, an enclosed zone of the state industrial-parks company INDIS Malta that is managed by a tenants' association. The park is home to ICT firms and to makers of electronic devices, medical devices and healthcare products. Abertax Kemtronics runs a contract electronics manufacturing plant there, MostaTech builds fibre-optic gyroscopes and inertial measurement units, and Hoenle Quartz Malta (formerly Raesch Quarz Malta), part of Germany's Hönle Group, produces quartz-glass products. MEMO International, a supplier of electronic locks for jewellery and watch showcases, and Stargate Studios Malta, which provides visual effects and production services for film and television, are also based at the park. The smaller Mosta Industrial Estate hosts micro and small businesses in engineering and mechanical services, furniture and metal fabrication. The MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts has a campus in Mosta, and neighbouring Ta' Qali adds the Artisan Village and the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre.

Frequently asked questions — Mosta

Our firm is based at Mosta Technopark. Where would web design or custom software help us?

That depends on who reads your website. Buyers and engineers, at home and abroad, look for capabilities, certifications and a quick way to request a quote, so we build B2B sites with clear process pages, downloadable datasheets and RFQ forms that accept drawings or Gerber files. For contract electronics manufacturers and makers of medical products, custom software often follows: a customer portal showing order and batch status, a document area for certificates of conformity, or an internal tool that replaces spreadsheets in quality control. Companies in visual effects and production need portfolio sites that play showreels without long loading times. If you are hiring technicians or engineers, a careers section with concrete role descriptions belongs in the plan from the start.

What decides the price of a website, a customer portal or an online shop?

Websites start at €3,000; custom software and web apps start at €15,000. Where your project lands above that depends on concrete factors: the number of product families and languages, whether forms need file uploads, how many user roles a portal has, and whether data must flow to or from an ERP or accounting system. An online shop for a retailer in Mosta or a maker at the Ta' Qali Artisan Village is priced by its scope: product range, payment methods and shipping rules. After a first conversation, you receive a written scope and a fixed price, invoiced in euros. Larger projects can be split into stages, each with its own fixed price, which makes internal approval easier when a parent company abroad has to sign off.

From kick-off to go-live, how many weeks should we plan for?

For a focused company website, plan on roughly four to eight weeks. A clearly scoped tool, such as an RFQ portal or a document area for customers, usually needs eight to twelve weeks, and larger systems are delivered in stages over several months. In manufacturing, the bottleneck is rarely the design but the technical content: approved product data, current certificates, sign-off from engineering before drawings or specifications go online, and access to the ERP system for integrations. That is why we agree a content and access plan in the first week. If a new site has to be ready for a trade fair or an event at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali, tell us the date at the start and we plan backwards from it.

Once the website or portal is running, how do you keep it secure and up to date?

We plan for life after launch from the outset. Under an optional maintenance agreement, we take care of security and framework updates, backups and uptime monitoring, plus small changes within an agreed monthly allowance; response times for critical issues are set out in writing. Hosting is in data centres within the EU. With software, maintenance also means adapting to change: a new product line, an extra test step in quality control or a new field in the ERP export. We quote such extensions in advance as fixed-price work. Because Malta and Germany share a time zone, you can reach us during your normal working hours. You receive the source code and access to all accounts, so your own IT team or another provider can take over at any time.

Most companies can point to the place where information gets stuck: the quote request still waiting for a reply, the certificate someone has to dig out again, the careers page nobody has updated. Bring that bottleneck to a first conversation, and we will tell you whether a website, a focused tool or a change in process solves it. We work remotely; workshops in Mosta are possible on request.

Let's talk about your project, your vision and your brand.
