MDEPARTMENT × MALTA
Web Design
WEB DESIGN
Web design in Malta rarely serves a purely local audience. One site may have to win over a compliance team in Frankfurt, a candidate relocating from Milan and a customer in Birkirkara checking opening hours on their phone. It speaks English, often Maltese and sometimes Italian or German too. That puts the weight on things visitors only notice when they fail: a structure search engines can index in every language, fonts that display ċ, ġ, ħ and ż correctly, pages that load quickly on mobile, and accessibility in line with WCAG 2.1 AA. MDEPARTMENT, a digital studio of KRUPKA Concept GmbH in Germany, has no office in Malta and works with Maltese clients remotely. We plan, design and build company websites and relaunches that protect the rankings you have earned, on a headless CMS your team can update in every language without calling in a developer.

Web Design
- Each language version is found by the audience it was written for.
- Pages load quickly on phones and pass Google's Core Web Vitals assessment.
- Your site meets WCAG 2.1 AA, with documentation for the European Accessibility Act.
- After the relaunch, your site keeps the search rankings it has earned.
Audit before design
We start with your current site: rankings, traffic sources, every URL and what each language version contains. That inventory becomes the redirect map and the brief for the new structure.
Content model first
Before any screen is designed, we define the page types, their fields and the translation workflow in a headless CMS. Editors can then publish in English, Maltese or any other language without breaking the layout.
Tested on staging
On a staging site you can open at any time, we test every template with a screen reader, on real phones and against Core Web Vitals. Launch follows once redirects, hreflang tags and cookie consent have been verified.

Frequently asked questions — Malta
What does a new website cost, and what drives the price?
We price by scope, not by the hour. Websites start at €3,000. The figure depends less on how many pages the site has than on how many different page types it needs. Other factors are the number of languages, whether we write or edit the content with you, and which tools the site connects to, such as a booking system, a CRM or a newsletter service. A relaunch adds the work of mapping and redirecting old URLs. After a free initial call, you receive a written offer with one fixed price for the agreed scope, invoiced in euros. Larger sites can be split into phases, each with its own fixed price. Online shops are priced individually, depending on product range and integrations.
What are the steps from the first call to launch, and how long do they take?
After the initial call, we audit your existing site, if there is one: pages, rankings, traffic and every URL that will need a new home. Next come the page structure and content model, then designs for the key templates, which you review as clickable drafts. We build on a staging site, migrate the content and test speed, accessibility, forms and redirects before anything goes live. After launch, we monitor Google Search Console for crawl errors and fix any that appear. A focused company website usually takes four to eight weeks. A relaunch typically takes six to fourteen weeks, depending on scope; multilingual sites with large page archives sit towards the upper end. The main variable is how quickly content and approvals arrive.
How do language, time zone and invoicing work with a studio in Germany?
Projects run in English or German, whichever your team prefers, with a single contact on our side from kick-off to launch. Malta and Germany share Central European Time, so calls fit into normal office hours on both sides. Day-to-day work happens over video calls, a shared task board and staging links; for a kick-off or content workshop, we come to Malta on request. Invoices are issued in euros by KRUPKA Concept GmbH. If your company holds a valid EU VAT number, the reverse-charge mechanism applies: we invoice without German VAT, and you account for the VAT in Malta. We verify the number through the EU's VIES system before the first invoice.
Does our website need a Maltese version alongside English?
That depends on your audience. Maltese and English are both official languages, and many businesses with international clients publish in English only. If you mainly serve people on the islands, such as households, patients or members, a Maltese version can make the site feel closer to home. If you add one, each language gets its own URLs and hreflang tags, so search engines show the right version. We do not publish unreviewed machine translation: Maltese texts come from your team or a translator you trust, and the CMS shows which pages are still awaiting translation. We also check easily missed details: whether the fonts in headings and buttons include every Maltese letter, and whether place names such as Ħamrun or Żebbuġ are spelt consistently in URLs.
Send us your website's address and a few lines on what is not working, be it too few enquiries, a missing language or a slow mobile version. No website yet? Describe what it should achieve. We reply within one working day and review your notes before the free initial call; a fixed price in euros follows. If a relaunch is not the right step yet, we will say so.
