Websites & software in Ħal Qormi
Ħal Qormi
Customers who order bread and pastries for a family celebration expect to check prices, allergens and collection times on their phones. Corporate clients of a bank or advisory firm on Mill Street expect a secure login, documents that arrive when promised and a website that explains services without jargon. A driver looking for a panel beater at Tal-Ħandaq simply wants a form that accepts photos of the damage. These expectations decide how businesses in Ħal Qormi are judged online, and MDEPARTMENT, a digital studio based in Germany, builds to meet them. Web design in Qormi, for us, means fast, accessible, GDPR-compliant websites and online shops. With custom software development, we go further: B2B ordering portals for food producers, client areas for financial firms and job-tracking tools for workshops. We work remotely, in English or German.

Qormi, which has carried the title Città Pinto since 1743, lies in central Malta and is the seat of the Southern Region (Reġjun Nofsinhar). It is regarded nationally as the capital of Maltese bread-making: the name Casal Fornaro dates from the time of the Knights, the town has the largest number of bakeries in the country, several of which still bake in wood-fired ovens, and the Lejl f'Casal Fornaro festival, first held in 2007, celebrates this heritage. The bakery company Maypole has its head office and bakery on Tal-Ħandaq Road; the surrounding Tal-Ħandaq Industrial Estate is home to many small businesses, most commonly in panel beating and spray painting, stonework, steelwork and woodwork. In Tal-Bajjad, around Mill Street, the Qormi section of Malta's Central Business District houses the headquarters of HSBC Bank Malta, whose HSBC Hub was inaugurated in 2024, as well as PwC Malta. The neighbouring Mrieħel Industrial Estate, part of which is administered by INDIS, is home to manufacturers in food and beverages and in electronics and components.

Frequently asked questions — Ħal Qormi
Is web design in Qormi charged by the hour or at a fixed price?
At a fixed price. Before any figure is set, we hold a free initial call to understand what the website or tool has to achieve; the offer that follows names one price for an agreed scope. As a guide, websites start at €3,000, and custom software or web applications at €15,000. A bakery's website with a pre-order form will sit closer to the starting price than a client portal linked to accounting or banking systems. Additional languages, interfaces to other systems and the amount of content we write with you are what move the figure. We invoice in euros, and larger projects can be split into phases, each with its own fixed price.
What changes when the studio you hire is based in Germany rather than in Malta?
Less than you might expect. Germany and Malta share a time zone, so calls take place during ordinary working hours on both sides. Projects run in English or German, whichever your team prefers, and you deal with one named contact from the first meeting to launch. Progress is visible on a test environment and a shared project board, so nobody waits for a status report. We do not have an office in Malta; when an on-site workshop helps, for example with staff from several departments, we travel to Qormi. Invoices come from KRUPKA Concept GmbH in euros, and for VAT-registered businesses in Malta the EU reverse-charge mechanism usually applies.
Bakery, workshop or advisory firm: what might a project in Qormi look like?
For bakeries and food producers, it might be a website with pre-orders for collection, allergen information and a B2B portal where cafés and shops reorder their usual quantities. Food, beverage and electronics manufacturers around Mrieħel can benefit from bringing orders, stock and production planning into one web application instead of several spreadsheets. Panel beaters and metal, stone or woodworking workshops at Tal-Ħandaq can use an enquiry form with photo upload and a simple job-tracking tool. For banks and for audit, tax and advisory firms in the Central Business District, we build multilingual websites, client areas with secure document exchange and internal dashboards. Where it saves real time, we add AI features, for instance to sort incoming documents.
Customers and clients trust us with their data. Where does the GDPR fit into the project?
We treat data protection as a design requirement from the first workshop. Forms ask only for what is needed, analytics and marketing tools load only after consent, and hosting takes place in data centres within the EU. As your processor, we sign a data processing agreement and document our technical and organisational measures. For client portals and internal tools, we add role-based access rights, encryption in transit and at rest, and logs of relevant actions, which helps banks and advisory firms answer their own compliance questions. A bakery's pre-order form needs far less, and we scale the effort accordingly. The legal assessment stays with you and your advisers; we implement the requirements technically.
Qormi has been known for bread since the Knights' era, when the town was called Casal Fornaro. Some traditions deserve to last; order lists on paper and in spreadsheets are not among them. If enquiries, orders or client documents get stuck in your business, describe the problem to us. After a free initial call, you receive a fixed price in euros and a plan showing what goes live first.
